AVOID FINES AND RENEW YOUR ITEMS!

THE GOAL OF THE LIBRARY IS TO PROVIDE SERVICE NOT TO ISSUE AND COLLECT FINES. 



PER ITEM: CHECKOUT PERIOD, RENEWAL, FINE, REPLACEMENT, AND LOST MATERIALS
NEW POLICY IN EFFECT 8/28/2006

BOOKS:
Books are checked out for two weeks (14 days).  They may be renewed for an unlimited number of times if no one else has reserved them.  The fine for overdue books is 10 cents per day.  There is no maximum fine for overdue books; the borrower will be responsible for all fines.  If a book has been lost, the borrower will be responsible for replacement costs in addition to all overdue fines.  Students will not be able to register for the next term, graduate, receive grades, or receive transcripts until all books are returned and fines are paid.

PERIODICALS:
The library retains a limited collection of back periodicals.  The checkout period is one week (7 days).  The fine for overdue periodicals is $.25 per day.  There is no maximum fine and no overdue notices will be sent out.  If an item is lost the borrower will be responsible for replacement costs in addition to overdue fines.  Students will not be able to register for the next term, graduate, receive grades, or receive transcripts until all items are returned and fines are paid.

VIDEOS:
A limited number of videocassettes are available for checkout.  The checkout period is one week (7 days).  The overdue fine on videocassettes is $.50 per day.  There is no maximum fine.  If an item is lost the borrower will be responsible for replacement costs in addition to overdue fines. Students will not be able to register for the next term, graduate, receive grades, or receive transcripts until all videos are returned and fines are paid.  

COMPUTER SOFTWARE:
These items will be treated in the same manner as books.

LIMITED CHECKOUT MATERIALS:
Items with limited checkout periods such as overnight, 3 day, 1 week period will be charged $.50 per day.  There is no maximum fine and no overdue notices will be sent out.  If an item is lost the borrower will be responsible for replacement costs in addition to overdue fines. Students will not be able to register for the next term, graduate, receive grades, or receive transcripts until all videos are returned and fines are paid.
  

RESERVE MATERIALS:
Reserve materials will be available for library use only for a time period of one hour per item from the initial checkout time.  These items are not to leave the library.  If they do, a fine will be levied of $.50 per hour until the item is returned to the library.  The library will only charge for open business hours.  Students will not be able to register for the next term, graduate, receive grades, or receive transcripts until all materials are returned and fines are paid. 

DAMAGED MATERIALS POLICY

An item is either in condition to be used or it isn’t.  The library staff will make a determination of what constitutes conditions for reasonable use.  If an item is returned in a damaged condition, the student will be responsible for replacement costs in addition to all accumulated fines.  The original damaged item will become property of the student after replacement costs have been paid.  A $5.00 processing fee will be added per item replaced. 

MULTIPLE MEDIA ITEMS:
Many books have accompanying software.  In case a book or piece of software belonging to a multiple media item is lost or damaged beyond reasonable use, the student will receive the intact part of the item and replace the entire item.

FINE DISPUTES:
The library reserves the right to cancel or not to cancel any student fine for any reason.  Students who believe they have been issued improper fines may appeal to the Library Assistant or in some cases the Library Director.  All rights not listed in this policy will be reserved for the library.
