The mission of the DeVry library is to effectively support the educational goals and instructional needs of the institute by providing students with resources to supplement classroom and laboratory learning and by providing guidance and instruction to support development of student research and independent learning skills. In addressing this mission, a DeVry library is organized to support specialized academic needs that place primary emphasis on relatively few curricular areas. These areas include electronics technology, computer information systems, business, telecommunications management, accounting, and the general education courses related to these areas of study. To strengthen its ability to provide current sources of information in support of DeVry's applications-oriented programs in rapidly changing fields, the library maintains a focused book collection along with a strong emphasis on periodicals in both print and non-print format. On-site resources are supplemented through sharing within the DeVry system, interlibrary loan arrangements, and membership in regional consortia. Electronic information resources such as on-line data banks, CD-ROM-based databases, and other emerging technological systems are used as they become feasible and cost-effective.
